SNAP Safeguarding Policy
1. Purpose
This safeguarding policy outlines the commitment of the SNAP to support in protectinf the safety, wellbeing, and rights of all individuals who engage with our services. While our members are adults, SNAP recognises that adults can still be vulnerable to abuse, exploitation, coercion, and harm, particularly within performance industries.
2. Scope
This policy applies to:
* All members of the organisation and service users
* All activities, including online and in-person engagement
3. Definitions
Safeguarding: Protecting an individual’s right to live in safety, free from abuse and neglect.
Adult at Risk: Any person aged 18 or over who may be vulnerable due to personal circumstances, including but not limited to mental health, disability, financial hardship, coercion, or exploitation.
Abuse may include:
* Physical abuse
* Emotional or psychological abuse
* Sexual abuse
* Financial or economic exploitation
* Coercion or control
* Neglect or self-neglect
* Online abuse or harassment
4. Principles
SNAP Is guided by the following principles:
* Respect and dignity: All individuals are treated with respect regardless of background or profession.
* Empowerment: Individuals are supported to make their own informed decisions.
* Confidentiality: Information is handled sensitively and shared only when necessary.
* Proportionality: Responses are appropriate to the level of risk.
* Accountability: All safeguarding concerns are taken seriously and acted upon.
5. Responsibilities
5.1 Safeguarding Lead
A designated Safeguarding Lead is responsible for:
* Managing safeguarding concerns that are connunicated
* Liaising with the member involved
* Providing guidance including signposting to relevant agencies such as the police, support groups
6. Recognising Risk and Harm
Indicators that an adult performer may be at risk include:
* Signs of coercion or control by third parties
* Physical injuries or distress
* Reports of unsafe working conditions
* Online harassment or threats
7. Reporting Procedure
1. Report: Notify the Safeguarding Lead via the email address provided
2. Assess: The Safeguarding Lead evaluates risk and next steps.
3. Refer: Where necessary, refer to relevant support services.
8. Confidentiality and Information Sharing
* Information is shared on a need-to-know basis.
* Consent is sought where possible.
* Information may be shared without consent if there is a risk of serious harm.
9. Online Safeguarding
Given the nature of adult performance work, SNAP recognises increased digital risks:
* Doxxing and identity exposure
* Non-consensual distribution of content
* Harassment and stalking
Measures include:
* Providing digital safety guidance
* Moderating online communities
* Clear reporting mechanisms for abuse
10. Professional Boundaries
SNAP SAFEGUARDING LEAD WILL
* Keep responsibility to support and signpost
* Maintain clear communication channels
* Not engage in personal dependency with memvers
11. Responding to Disclosures
When someone discloses harm:
* Listen without judgement
* Do not promise absolute confidentiality
* Reassure them they are taken seriously
* Record accurately
* Report according to procedure
12. Allegations Against Staff or Volunteers
* All allegations are taken seriously
* Immediate steps are taken to ensure safety
* Investigations are conducted fairly and confidentially
* External authorities are involved where appropriat
13. Training
The safeguarding lead has appropriate knowledge, experience and training for the role.
14. Review
This policy will be reviewed annually or following any significant safeguarding incident.
